What brought you to Phonic FM?

A bus…? Oh wait, wrong answer!

Having previously worked with Phonic FM (and other stations), I felt it was time to return to where it all ended—now a little older and hopefully a bit wiser. It didn’t take long to realize how much I had missed the thrill of broadcasting. In true Take That style, Phonic FM did exactly what they sang about in 1993—it Relit My Fire! That fire being my passion for radio, and now I’m back behind the mic where I belong… where no one can see me, but they can definitely hear me!

What does Phonic FM mean to you?

Phonic FM is all about variety. It’s a vibrant community of passionate volunteers from all walks of life, bringing diverse shows to the airwaves. No two programmes are the same, yet we all share a common goal—entertaining, informing, and connecting with our listeners. That’s what makes Phonic FM the – Exeter’s sound alternative.

What do you do when you’re not on Phonic FM?

As John Miles famously sang, “Music was my first love, and it will be my last.” It’s a huge part of my life, whether on or off the airwaves.

Beyond music, I like to think of myself as a bit of a superhero—minus the cape (it’s a health and safety nightmare near revolving doors). By day, I’m your friendly radio presenter, but by night… well, I’m mostly just battling stubborn jar lids and untangling headphone wires. No need to thank me, citizens!

I keep things just as varied as my show! I’m a gamer (from role-playing games to multiplayer mayhem), a movie and TV buff, a quiz host, and an avid socializer. I also attend LAN parties—weekend-long gaming events where tech enthusiasts come together for fun, competition, and community. Oh, and I’m a choir member… but don’t worry, you won’t catch me singing on the show!

How do radio presenters do it?

It’s all about the magic formula: a microphone, a studio packed with faders, knobs, and buttons (some of which I’m still not entirely sure what they do), and, of course, an unhealthy amount of caffeine. I’m talking a mug of black coffee, vinyl records spinning, and just enough energy to keep the witty banter flowing. Because let’s face it, without the caffeine, I’d be staring at the studio window wondering why the faders are so tempting to touch – especially the big red button that says ‘do not press’. But hey, it’s all part of the radio presenter’s charm!
