A teenager from Exeter is just one step away from playing within The O2 in London after impressing judges in the TeenStar singing competition.
Charlotte Ward, aged 14, has now made it through to the national heats after performing one of her original songs, Lies, in front of a huge audience at the regional final showcase in Bournemouth.
She was delighted to receive a standing ovation from the judges who said: “What an amazing voice. Great playing, great audience interaction, great image, great songwriter. A real talent for the future.
“Wow! A unique voice.”
Charlotte said: “It was amazing. There were so many brilliant singers and the judges stood up and clapped me. I couldn’t believe it when I made it through.”
West Exe Technology College laid on a supervised minibus so that Charlotte’s friends could see her perform, with over 25 people rooting for her in Bournemouth.
More than 9,000 hopefuls entered TeenStar. Chris Grayston, Events Coordinator for TeenStar explained: “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, another Birdy or Lucy Spraggan that can go all the way, with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance but also potential to become a professional recording artist. There is so much talent out there I’m sure we can find that star again!”
The next stage in the competition – and the chance to compete for a place in the National Final at The O2 in London – is in The Guildhall in Portsmouth on 18 May. Tickets are available on the door or from Charlotte Ward.
