Downstream

First Friday of the month 1600-1800

Presented by Stuart Crewes, Creative Director of Art Work Exeter and former Co-Producer of the Culture & Review Programme here on Phonic, also wrangler of pixels and paper for Inky Fingers Workshop and spinner of discs as DJ Deadly Marvin (presenting SHAKE! on the 5th Sunday of the month, when there is one…)

Expect to hear new and old sounds from the listenable avant-garde, soundscapes and audio works, songs about the anthropocene and first world problems, plus recent releases and banging old classics. Left-of-centre for sure, with a penchant for Americana circa ’68-’72, but don’t be surprised to hear a slew of doom metal, a confusion of psych or a tintinnabulation of gamelan.

There will be an occasional takeover as The EAR Show (Exeter Art Radio), with artist and cultural conversations and interviews, sitting comfortably alongside listings and reviews of stuff going down in the locale, as the moment dictates (Art Week Exeter in particular).

What brought you to Phonic FM?

I tuned in while we were decorating our house, after moving here in 2008… never looked back!

What does Phonic FM mean to you?

“the music is good, there’s usually someone there”

What do you do when you’re not on Phonic FM?

Helping out wherever they’re busy…

How do radio presenters do it?

Down in the basement.
