Dreadnought South West is hosting an event to celebrate International Women’s Day on Exeter’s Community Radio station, Phonic FM.
Individuals and groups of women and girls, from Exeter and the surrounding area, will create, programme and produce exciting radio programmes which will be transmitted across a 16-hour period on International Women’s Day, 8 March 2017.
We intend to facilitate skills learning for these women and girls by employing experienced tutors, and by leading workshops on creative writing and storytelling. All the participating individuals/groups will have the opportunity to take part in the final event and day of celebration, either in the studio or in our exhibition/meeting space at Exeter Phoenix.

This will be an opportunity for a diverse range of women and girls to share their stories, music, histories and hopes for the future, in a protected space. We are seeking to broaden the range of producers and audience for local radio and in particular for programmes created & made by women.
Documenting the programmes will be part of Dreadnought’s project and an archive of stories will emerge to mark the diversity of Exeter’s women and girls in the twenty-first century. Various community groups and partners have been identified so far: Devon United Women, Exeter Mosque women’s group, Global Women’s Network (Exeter), Fawcett Devon, Devon Rape & Sexual Abuse Services, Phonic FM & Exeter College.
