The Cabaret at the End of the Universe will be appearing at the Voodoo Lounge, Exeter Phoenix on Friday 6th June and looks to be a very different show to the normal cabaret.
Mojo Jones and Lee Rawlings have produced a show for science fiction fans and non-fans alike to enjoy at the Exeter Phoenix. Packed with sci-fi references, the variety night contains comedy, burlesque, juggling, music and a radio DJ.
Lee, co-producer claims “There isn’t anything quite like this out there as far as I can see. There are Burlesque nights and variety nights but none that delve solely into the fun world of sci-fi and fantasy.”
The burlesque routines draw inspiration from films, video games, TV Shows and other genre themes while the comedy is supplied by Marcus Gill who manages to traverse the ‘Nerd’ and ‘Norm’ audience perfectly enabling anyone to enjoy his brand of humour.
Covent Garden Jester of the year ELFIC will marvel and amuse audiences with his seasoned skilled performance and a certain amount of light-hearted cheesiness is supplied by the comedy singers Harry Hadron and Carl Collider.
All of this is topped off with local radio DJ Simon Brett who will be playing out of this world tunes after the main event.
Moving Pictures shop will be erecting a pop up shop and will sponsor the event by supplying the Galactic Bingo with prizes. Colin Bond the owner of the shop believes “This night will be a brilliant night for fans of the genre but totally accessible for non fans – just like my shop!” and goes on to quote The Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy books: “it’s going to be like having your brains smashed out with a slice of lemon, wrapped around a large gold brick!”
The night will be original, different and a bargain at just five pounds! Anyone can enjoy it over the age of 18 and retro sci-fi fancy dress and cosplay is thoroughly encouraged to add to the atmosphere and fun!
The Cabaret at the End of the Universe debut price will be £5 on the door. The show starts at 8.30 pm with the main event finishing at 10.45 pm, followed by music from the DJ up until midnight.
Retro Sci-fi dress is encouraged.
