TeenStar Regional Finals, Exeter Corn Exchange, 30th March 2014
16-year old Holly Morwenna has been given the big thumbs up by judges at the TeenStar auditions. Along with other impressive acts, such as 15-year old Aspen from Newton Abbot and 16-year old Aaron Samuel from Ottery St Mary, Morwenna, from Exeter, has made it through to the Regional Finals of the UK’s only singing competition specifically for teens and pre-teens. The Regional Finals will take place at Exeter’s Corn Exchange on 30th March 2014.
TeenStar is an exciting national singing competition searching for the UK’s best teen and pre-teen singers, singer/songwriters, rappers and vocalists of all genres who perform either covers or original material.
TeenStar is brought to you by Future Music, the company behind the discovery of artists such as Warner Music’s Birdy, Columbia Record’s Lucy Spraggan, Union J’s Jaymi Hensley, and X Factor 2012 runner-up Jahmene Douglas, the latter two of which are now signed to Sony Music.
One contestant who has evidently caught the judge’s eye is local talent and OpenMicUk 2014 Grand Finalist Holly Morwenna. The Open Mic Grand Final Judges’ comments on Holly Morwenna’s performance were extremely positive, claiming that “Exeter and the West Country clearly has a lot of talent.” Her performance left the judges wondering, “what’s in the air down there?!”
Holly Morwenna has also had interest from BBC Radio Devon and tracks from her new EP have been played on air by The Voice FM, Radio Exe, Phonic FM and Riviera Radio stations.
These young singers are now in the running to follow in the footsteps of previous winner and X Factor finalist, Luke Friend, and compete for a place in the Grand Final of TeenStar. Thousands of hopefuls entered the competition and those who made it through the audition stage will now take part in a live regional head-to-head battle alongside the best talent in their area. They’ll be performing in front of hundreds of audience members and a professional judging panel to win a place at the National Grand Final where the spotlight will be shone on them and they’ll have the chance to be signed.
Chris Grayston, Events Co-ordinator for TeenStar, comments “We are looking to find an act that has something unique to offer, another Birdy or Luke Friend that can go all the way, with both the ability to deliver a strong live performance but also potential to become a professional recording artist. There is so much talent out there I’m sure we can find that star again!”
The competition is divided into age categories. The latter stages of the competition will also provide acts with the opportunity to impress many guests from record labels, agencies and the entertainment industry as well as judges from BBC Introducing, national radio and regional press with judges becoming more prestigious as the competition progresses.
Previous Future Music competition winner Birdy’s career has gone from strength-to-strength since winning Open Mic UK. She securing a deal with Warner Music and watching her debut album achieve Gold status in the UK and platinum status throughout Europe, and receiving a 2014 BRIT award nomination.
