Joe Bloggers have announced a series of nights at The Cavern in Exeter starting on February 16th.
Bods from the popular music blog have teamed up with Marcus from A Pocket Full of Seeds blog to bring you some of the best new and upcoming music from around the country and locally in Exeter and the surrounding towns.
The first Exeter date will feature ahab, Slipdown Dog, Ben Josif and E.C. Dawson.
ahab
Ahab emerged from the vibrant music scene in Hoxton and Shoreditch, the creative heart of north London. The band coalesced around a shared love of American music and song writing. They honed their skills busking throughout London and a cult following rapidly cottoned on to their brand of alt-country Americana melded with a British folk-rock sensibility. Ahab’s music has a laid-back swing but there’s also an undercurrent of indie edginess. In performance ahab combines instrumental virtuosity and richly layered four-part vocal harmonies.

Slipdown Dog
Acoustic music made to make you dance, stomp, cry, shout and scream. Lyrically driven songs, backed by a “tight-as-your-nan” rhythm section. This is what it would sound like if Black Sabbath had a fight with Neil Young & Bob Dylan, whilst Tom Waits drank whisky in the corner. Slipdown Dog are a bunch of musicians who have been beaten up by life and clawed their way back from hell just to play music together, tough and uncompromisingly honest music that is shot straight from the depths of the soul. This band pull no punches.

E.C. Dawson
Literate, muscular folk without pretence. Simple but not formulaic. Sharp and spontaneous but still reachable and immediate. Mr Dawson writes folk music that has been stripped down to the most raw and beautiful roots. Finding influences in other contemporary folk singers such as Bon Iver, The Tallest Man on Earth and Willy Mason, there is very little not to enjoy about the style, sound and delivery of this songwriter from the South West of England.

Benjamin Josif
Benjamin grew up in South West of England. At home with roots and folk based music, his influences such as Ray Lamontagne and Bob Dylan can be heard in the rasp of his voice, to the style of his song writing.
