Rural Funk Explosion, Phonic FM’s astute purveyors of all things funk, and for that matter rural, have finally come clean about their favourite band.
No it’s not The Blackbyrds. Not Brooklyn Funk Essentials. It’s not even the mighty Parliament. No its Birkenhead surrealists Half Man Half Biscuit, who have been described by John Peel as ‘a British Institution’, by Andy Kershaw as ‘England’s greatest folk band’, and as a ‘National Treasure’ by Word Magazine.
DJs Ian and Christos’ decades long obsession with HMHB resulted in a long shot phone call to the band’s manager to ask if they would like to play in their village hall.
After some negotiation and in a coup for small villages everywhere the band will be appearing at Roadwater Village Hall in Somerset on Wednesday 5th August.
It will be a unique opportunity to catch this quintessential English band play a gig in the quintessential English setting of a rural village hall.
