Two Short Nights Film Festival, Exeter Phoenix, Friday 27th November to Saturday 28th November
Now in its eighth year, the Exeter Phoenix Media Centre’s own annual short film festival is back, bringing the best of this year’s local, national and international short films to Exeter!
This year for the first time, the Two Short Nights Film Festival will also include a big ‘Media Mash Up’ conference. A panel of industry professionals will give filmmakers a look behind the scenes and reveal important information about their careers and how they achieved success.
There will be breakout sessions for emerging filmmakers who may have first hand experience of production, but who may like to find out more about anything from how to take the first steps towards finding a career in film, to tips on digital distribution. There will also be plenty of unique opportunities to have one-to-one sessions with industry professionals and ask for individual advice.
Every year, Exeter Phoenix’s the film festival has marked the beginning of a number of national and international success stories for local and regional filmmakers. Last year, 2SNFF premiered ‘Screaming Skull’ by Exeter filmmaker Ashley Thorpe, which went on to be screened in the USA and shortlisted for Best UK Short Film at the 2009 Raindance Festival.
Exeter based filmmakers Andrew Oxley and David Williams’s film ’Making the Difference’ which also premiered at the 2008 film festival was shortlisted for the prestigious Virgin Media Shorts awards earlier this year. It was one of the twelve finalists selected from 2000 entries by a judging panel including Hollywood actor/director Kevin Spacey, and will be shown in 214 cinemas nationwide for a whole year and will appear on TV, online and on mobile internet.
Previous years have seen films such as ‘The Revenge of the Jazz Hoodie’ by Exeter based filmmakers Jerry Hart and Ben Sherriff go on to win the 2008 Media Innovation Award for Best Independent Film/Video after appearing at Two Short Nights Film Festival in 2007. The Two Short Nights Film Festival 2006 bursary winner ‘The Crinoline and The Rose’ by Devon based fashion designer and filmmaker Emma Kempton, went on to be screened at the London Fashion Show and also won the 2007 South West Media Innovation award for Best Film.

48 HOURS FILM SCREENING

Screening of the results of the 48-hour film challenge, where filmmakers were given 48 hours to get a film made from scratch this autumn. See just what can be achieved over a weekend!
GUERRILLA FILMMAKING WORKSHOP
Saturday 28th November/12noon–6pm/£30
A day-long workshop designed to give you all transferable skills needed in the world of digital filmmaking. Using only a prop as inspiration, we will plan, shoot and edit a short film in just 6 hours. Whether you are into acting, filming or sound, this may be your opportunity to meet and collaborate with others who share the same interests. No previous experience necessary.
