The Sunday Scribble

The Sunday Scribble

Presented by Sketch and Rhod.

The idea of the Scribble is to play lots of new music and artists as well as music that we love from the olden days – the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, etc.

What sort of music? Well, we cover punk, post-punk, indie, industrial, electronic, experimental, folk, country, jazz, soundtracks – in fact if we like it, we play it. I (Sketch) have never seen the point in having a radio show and playing music that you personally don’t like. Obviously we hope that you the listener like our choices as well, we do offer a ‘request service’ if you want to take part in the show.

Rhod and myself do tend to chat in-between the records providing you with pointless facts, inane statements and musings on the minutiae of modern life.

At 11am every week we are honoured to bring you one of the south-west’s premier meteorologists Aaron Cumes to give you an insight to what the weather will be like for Sunday afternoon.

Turn on, tune in, drop off.

What brought you to Phonic FM?

David Whitelock, who was festivals officer for Exeter City Council, set up the Vibraphonic Festival back in 2004 which was granted a one-month radio licence each year for Vibraphonic FM. In 2008 this turned into Phonic FM. I have been involved with broadcasting from the early days of Vibraphonic FM.

What does Phonic FM mean to you?

I love Phonic FM. Personally I think we have been given a great gift here in Exeter with Phonic FM. To be able to broadcast on FM in Exeter and have a world-wide presence via our website is fantastic. Phonic FM really is a broad church covering lots of different types of music, spoken word, features, factual based programmes. It has given the chance to countless people who have wanted to work in or experiment with all aspects of presenting and radio production. Anybody can do it, it’s like the punk rock of radio…

What do you do when you’re not on Phonic FM?

I (Sketch) am an art teacher, artist, DJ, singer in the band Stella Martyr, football fan (Exeter City) and a collector of all sorts of stuff. Rhod is a Photographer.

How do radio presenters do it?

It’s easy – anyone can do it, give it a go. A lifetime love of music does help though.
