Between the Buttons

Between the Buttons

With Steve, from Exeter’s Vanished Rock Venues. I play a mixture of tracks that we haven’t had time for in our monthly EVRV show, together with tracks associated with local gigs, the occasional chat or interview, and any other stuff that I think people will like.

What brought you to Phonic FM?

I started with Exeter’s Vanished Rock Venues on second Thursdays. Now that I’ve got the hang of the equipment, more or less, I’m presenting this extra monthly show on my own.

What does Phonic FM mean to you?

It’s important that Phonic FM provides alternative programming compared with other stations – especially the BBC – and that it is serving the local community.

What do you do when you’re not on Phonic FM?

I’m an occasional artist, writer and musician, and a director of the TAAG gallery in Teignmouth. I also do a Totnesian version of my show called Strange Daze on Soundart Radio.

How do radio presenters do it?

I still get nervous about going on air – mainly about not being able to think of anything to say! Solo broadcasting takes some getting used to – it’s far easier and natural to have a conversation with an interviewee or another presenter.
