Phonic FM DAB Bid Successful

Phonic FM DAB Bid Successful

Phonic FM part of successful DAB+ bid for Exeter area.

We’re delighted to announce that together with our partners, Radio Exe, Riviera FM, Zest FM and Ashley Jeary, Phonic FM has been awarded a 7-year contract to run the DAB+ service for the Greater Exeter area. The new service will allow up to 30 new services to be carried to the growing population in and around the City with further plans to be developed to further extent the service northwards from the City boundaries.

For Phonic FM this means that we will be able to extend the coverage area of the station in high quality stereo on all DAB+ enabled radios. Subject to technical issues it is intended that the new service will become available from the very early part of 2022.

Phonic will continue to broadcast on FM, and the new service should enable the station to remain a “No adverts – no playlist” station supporting the arts (in the widest sense) in around the Exeter area.

The Board of Phonic FM would like to thank all those who supported the bid, especially those who wrote specifically in support of Phonic. The award promises a further set of developments for the work we’ve been undertaking since 2008. We are grateful to all those who listen, support, and help out making us “Exeter’s Sound Alternative”

A further announcement will follow as further details emerge.
