By Tony Walker

Friday 20th February marked the Opening of Exeter Artspace in its new home at Exeter Castle.

On Friday 20th February Exeter Artspace held an exhibition of members work and conducted tours of their new home, Exeter Castle. I was fortunate enough to be present with an audio recorder and a digital stills camera to record some of the event. I managed to speak with about half of the resident artists at Exeter Artspace and the ones you can see below agreed to be interviewed for broadcast on Phonic FM.

You can listen to the special two hour Exeter Artspace Interview Show on Phonic FM 106.8fm and as a Podcast by clicking under the photo’s on this post.

Call of the Lost – Exeter Castle

Opening night: Saturday 28th February (6pm – 9pm)

Showing: 1st March – 31st March

Clare Flint’s oil paintings are on a large scale and this exhibition in the new ‘Long Gallery’ continues an investigation of themes of heaven and hell today and the interaction between people and falling space.

Simon Ruscoe’s fifteen foot high sculpture of a mother and baby on display provides a preview to the series of seven huge drowning figures. The steel figures represent a direct response to the major fears, frustrations and struggles faced by humanity in contemporary times.

These two exceptionally talented figurative artists come together in this exhibition ‘Call of the Lost’ both having studios in the new Exeter Artspace which recently moved to Exeter Castle, this venue being complementary to both their artwork. This exciting exhibition is in collaboration with Exeter Artspace, Vibraphonics and Exeter Arts Council and is the inaugural exhibition in Exeter Castle.

Exeter Artspace is now resident at Exeter Castle where we provide 26 studio spaces with shared facilities and exhibition and events space.

Current members work across Painting, Sculpture, Fine Art, Ceramics, Photography and Installation Art; members range from recent graduates, to professional arts practitioners and teachers.

Exeter Artspace is a not for profit community interest company that exists for the benefit of our members and a wider network of visual artists and audiences in Exeter, Devon & beyond.
