Martin Hodge

Martin Hodge

It is with huge sadness that Phonic FM has learnt of the death of one of its longest-serving, and most loved and respected presenters, Martin Hodge.

Martin had been with Phonic FM since it started broadcasting in 2008. He was a knowledgeable presenter who revelled in introducing acoustic acts of all types, and encouraged them to play live on his shows, including ‘Roots & Shoots’, the ‘Multifarious Mix’ and ‘Hot Pebbles!’. Martin also co-presented Phonic FM’s coverage of Exeter Pride festival, and the weekly Respect Show, which actively supports the annual Exeter Respect festival, where he curated a stage.

He was active as a caller for various folk dance bands, and also in organising social events for the radio station. Above all he was a quiet, reliable presence around the studios, involved in behind-the-scenes tasks as well as presenting, including helping maintain this website.

He was always willing to lend his support to any aspect of work that an all-volunteer organisation requires. His quiet humour and genial disposition will be much missed, as will his ever-developing presentation style. He has supported a generation of acoustic performers through his programmes and the station will be a lesser place for his passing.
